Dr. Karan Singh is a renowned Indian politician, diplomat, author, and thinker. He was born on March 9, 1931, in Cannes, France, to the erstwhile Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir. He was educated at the Doon School, St. Stephen's College, Delhi, and Cambridge University.
Dr. Singh started his political career in 1957 by becoming a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Constituent Assembly. He became the youngest person to sign the Indian Constitution and was subsequently appointed as a minister in the state government of Jammu and Kashmir. He later served as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from 1965-1967.
Dr. Singh is known for his contribution to the development of India's foreign policy. He was the Minister of External Affairs in the Indian government from 1980-1984. As a diplomat, he represented India at various international forums, including as an Indian delegate to the United Nations General Assembly.
Dr. Singh is also a prolific author and has written more than 20 books on diverse subjects, including religion, philosophy, and politics. He is also the founder of the Centre for the Study of the World Religions at Harvard University.
Dr. Karan Singh has been awarded several honours throughout his career, including the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian award, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding. He continues to be a prominent voice in Indian politics and intellectual circles.
